Introduction
Car Rental Excess Insurance has been available to buy for around 20 years as a standalone insurance policy. Questor Insurance in the UK started offering the product in 2007 to UK residents travelling worldwide. Car Rental Excess Insurance is an alternative to the car rental excess waiver offered by car rental companies.
What is Car Rental Excess Insurance?
Car Rental Excess Insurance insures a person renting a car for their financial liability to the car rental company. Your financial liability will be set out in the rental agreement and in the main relates to damage to the rented car.
Car Rental Excess Insurance is a policy designed to cover your liability to the car rental company and includes additional benefits providing a more comprehensive package.
Buying Options
- Single Rental Agreement covers one rental agreement up to 180 days in length
- Multi-Rental Agreements – covers unlimited rental agreements in the policy year starting on or after the policy start date. Each rental agreement cannot be more than 31 days in length. We have an option to extend this to 62 days in length
Please note that we will only cover a rental agreement if the period of the rental agreement dates match the dates of the policy.
Eligibility
To be eligible to buy a policy, you agree to the eligibility terms below. At the time of purchase of the policy: -
- You are a permanent resident of Ireland
- You are at least twenty-one (21) years of age and legally able to drive the rented vehicle and are not driving against the advice of a medical practitioner.
- You are renting a car
Exclusions
- This policy only covers the hire of a Car, defined as a vehicle with up to 9 seats used for the carriage of passengers. Any other vehicle is excluded, including Vans, Minibuses and Motorhomes.
- Any car valued more than €120,000.
- Any rental where the lead driver named on the rental agreement is different to the lead drivers named on the Certificate of Insurance.
- Any damage however caused where the dates on the rental agreement do not fall within the dates on the Certificate of Insurance.
- Any damage however caused when you are not driving in accordance with the terms and conditions of the car rental agreement.
